How to Make a DIY All-Purpose Cleaner with Vinegar – a natural and safe cleaning solution for almost every surface
Disclaimer: Not all cleaning products are suitable for every surface in your home. For example, while vinegar and water work well for cleaning glass and non-porous surfaces, they can harm unsealed granite and certain types of stone because the acid in vinegar can damage the stone’s surface.
Safety Consideration: It’s important to use a new container for your DIY cleaner to avoid any unexpected reactions from leftover chemicals in old bottles. Always label the container with the purpose and ingredients of the cleaner to prevent any confusion.
All you need is:
- Spray bottle
- Label
- Cleaning vinegar (white vinegar is also acceptable, however it’s a bit more expensive)
- Fragrance, such as essential oils, herbs, or citrus peels (optional)
- Dish soap (Dawn is my favorite)
Ingredients (per liter)
- 1/4 C. Dawn Dish Soap
- 1/4 C. Essential oil or Fragrance
- 3/4 C. Vinegar
- 1.25 C. Water
Optional: Create a citrus-infused vinegar for a fresh scent by placing lemon, orange, or grapefruit peels in a jar filled with vinegar. Let it sit for a week, then remove the peels and measure out 0.75 cups for this recipe. Store the remaining infused vinegar in a covered jar under your sink.
Instructions:
- Mix everything together
- Place the spray nozzle on the bottle and gently shake to mix the ingredients. Remember to do this each time you use the cleaner.
- Spray the surface directly or onto a cloth, then use the cloth to clean the surface.
- Optional you can include 1/4 cup of rubbing alcohol to enhance disinfection.
By following these steps, you can create and use an eco-friendly and safe all-purpose cleaner without filling your house with the scent of a vinaigrette salad dressing. This combination transforms vinegar into a pleasantly fragrant homemade orange peel vinegar.
